Im Vorfeld des am 13. November 2026 erscheinenden Tribute-Albums „20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan“ ist Glen Hansards Version des Klassikers „Bottle of Smoke“ veröffentlicht worden. Die im Oktober 2024 entstandene Aufnahme wurden mit der Unterstützung der Familie und des Nachlasses von Hansard freigegeben und würdigt die künstlerische Verbindung sowie die persönliche Freundschaft der beiden irischen Musiker.
Unterstützung der Dublin Simon Community
Die Hälfte aller Einnahmen des Tribute-Projekts geht an die Hilfsorganisation The Dublin Simon Community, die sich gegen Obdachlosigkeit in Irland einsetzt. MacGowan unterstützte die Organisation über viele Jahre, während Hansard unter anderem das weihnachtliche „Dublin Simon Christmas Eve Busk“ auf der Grafton Street mitinitiierte. Catherine Kenny, CEO der Dublin Simon Community, hob hervor, dass die Spenden dabei helfen, obdachlose Menschen durch die Wintermonate zu unterstützen und ihnen beim Wiederaufbau ihres Lebens beizustehen.
Victoria Mary Clarke betonte in einem Statement die Bedeutung der Zusammenarbeit: „I’m eternally grateful to Glen for being such an incredible friend to both myself and Shane and for being such an integral part of making this album possible. He did a magnificent version of Bottle of Smoke and he infused it with all of the soul and spirit and passion that he was famous for. I know that Shane adored Glen and admired his work and was hoping that Glen would produce an album for him. His passing is a profound loss to the music world and to humanity in general but it is some comfort to have his voice and presence and beauty on this album which would not have been made without him.“

Die vollständige Compilation „20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan“ erscheint am Freitag, den 13. November 2026, über Rubyworks als 3LP-Vinyl, 2CD, Deluxe Bookpack sowie digital. Die 36 Tracks umfassende Zusammenstellung ehrt das Schaffen des 2023 verstorbenen Shane MacGowan und versammelt Beiträge zahlreicher internationaler Künstlerinnen und Künstler.
