Ein neues Album mit eigenen Songs ist zwar angeteasert, aber noch nicht da. Um die Wartezeit zu verkürzen veröffentlichen Spanish Love Songs nun ihre „Doom & Gloom Sessions“ Collection. Die besteht aus einer Auswahl an Covern, für die Fans seit März 2020 im Rahmen des „Doom & Gloom Social Club“ gevoted haben. Am 25. April erscheint das Ganze via Pure Noise Records.
Mit „Smile Like You Mean It“ von The Killers liefern Spanish Love Songs auch gleich einen Vorgeschmack dazu, nachdem vor gut einem Jahr bereits eine entsprechende Version von „I Miss You“ (im Original von Blink 182) erschienen war. Weiterhin dürfen Fans sich auf Cover von Songs wie „Futures“ (Jimmy Eat World), „Portions For Foxes“ (Rilo Kiley) oder „Now It’s On“ (Grandaddy) freuen. Sänger und Gitarrist Dylan Slocum erzählt:
We’d put them up each month for our Doom & Gloom Social Club to vote on, engage with our community, and talk about great music. It was a great process, the freedom and fun we had recording these covers once a month for 2 years ended up sort of defining our approach as we started working on the new album.
